Every January, auto enthusiasts are welcomed with a host of auto auctions in Scottsdale. This year proves to be no different with five world-renowned auto auctions scheduled for a single week in Scottsdale and the surrounding area. Because of the close proximity of the auctions, event-goers can easily attend more than one, thereby taking in the unique experience of each auction.

Whether you plan your year around these fabulous events or (like me) are just looking to get in on the action for a week, auto auctions are abundant in Scottsdale and start as early as January 18.

If this video of the Las Vegas Road Rally is any indication, this will be a must see for auto enthusiasts.

The Scottsdale Road Rally will take place this Saturday, January 16th at 3:00 pm. However, head out to SkySong from 12:00 – 3:00 pm for a pre-rally car show. The cars will then leave SkySong, head up Scottsdale Road and make their way to the Scottsdale Pavilions where the fun continues from 4:00 – 8:00pm. It will be fun for the whole family so head out and enjoy the festivities.

The largest hot rod and custom car association in the world comes to Scottsdale Nov. 20-22 with the Goodguys 12th Annual Southwest Nationals. Held at WestWorld of Scottsdale, the event offers unique exhibits, a swap meet, model and pedal car show, and a hot rod cruise. Kicking off the New Year Jan. 17-24, 2010 is the grande dame of auto events, the Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction with more than 1,000 collector and special interest automobiles. Also held at WestWorld, Barrett-Jackson will feature hundreds of luxury lifestyle vendors and is a must-see event for high-end travelers and car aficionados alike (pictures from last year’s event). Just down the road, the boutique-style Russo & Steele Collector Auto Auction takes place Jan. 20-24 and will boast American muscle cars, European sports cars, hot rods and customs in an all-reserve auction format. And rounding off the car events is the Gooding & Company Auto Auction on Jan. 23 at Scottsdale Fashion Square. The annual event brings high quality collector vehicles to downtown Scottsdale and has sold the second highest-priced car in Arizona’s auction week history.

This is absolutely one of my favorite times of the year to be in Scottsdale. Not only is the weather great (we get to wear short sleeve shirts while the rest of the country is bundled up and still freezing), but there is something to do just about every weekend from here until April. You can hardly go anywhere in Scottsdale without running into an event, all of which are worth experiencing. Here are some of my favorites coming up through the end of January (and be sure to check out Valentine’s Day in Scottsdale for events taking place in February):

Barrett-Jackson:This auto auction features more than 1,000 of the world’s finest collector and special-interest automobiles and is attended by 250,000 collectors and enthusiasts.

Barrett-Jackson 38 Day Countdown

Barrett-Jackson recently held its 38th anniversary with a 38 day countdown celebration at the W Hotel in Scottsdale in partnership with 944 Magazine. Hundreds of people showed up for this event. There was no particular structure to the event other than to just have a good time and additionally to try some of Barrett-Jackson’s signature martinis. A handful of Barrett-Jackson’s rare car collection, such as the 1967 Pontiac GTO Convertible and the 1947 Allard, were on display at the W Scottsdale to give a sneak peak of what to expect and to be auction during the actual event to be taken place on January 11-18 at Westworld.
