Wearable ArtWalk and Wearable Runway Fashion Show

Scottsdale Fashion Week has confirmed a Wearable ArtWalk gallery line up that spotlights live body painted models, botanical fashions, fashion hounds, couture jewelry collections, and wearable fiber art.

The celebration kicks off on SouthBridge with the Wearable ArtWalk Opening Presentation and Preview Runway Fashion Show from 6-7p.m. where models will showcase exclusive designs on an outdoor runway.

The show will open with Calvin Charles Gallery’s ‘Living Sculpture’ by Deborah Paswaters who will start the runway action with her live body painted models. Ambiance Fleur Eclectics, exhibiting at Occasions! By Design, will close the show with its collection of live botanicals presented as wearable art on fashion models.

Little Black Dress Wines has created a Wearable ArtWalk Passport that will be available at the SouthBridge presentation and the Wearable ArtWalk galleries. Guests are encouraged to wear their own ‘little black dress’ to the event and collect stamps from Wearable galleries for the chance to win two VIP tickets to Scottsdale Fashion Week on November 6 and 7.

Wearable ArtWalk’s musical entertainment begins at 7 pm and includes pop-rock faves Jay & Ash at the Party Before ArtWalk (near the Stetson fashion stage), plus neoclassical pianist Elijah Bossenbroek, the flute sounds of Flavio, and solo singer-songwriter showcase Soliloquies featuring Jeordie and Teneia Sanders.

Throughout the night ArtWalkers will enjoy complimentary samples from the Little Black Dress Wines, Bacon Restaurant, Crudo Café, and Icelandic Glacial Water.

The 3rd annual event is open to the public and is presented by the Scottsdale Gallery Association in conjunction with the City of Scottsdale. Additional sponsors include Little Black Dress Wines, ShowUp.com, and the Scottsdale Downtowner.

The Bigger and Better Scottsdale Fashion Square

For those who love shopping Scottsdale Fashion Square is the mall just for that. The mall recently added a new 100,000 square foot extension to the already ginormous mall, now totalling 1.9 million square feet of retail space. If you’re not aware, Fashion Square is the the largest mall in the southwest so make sure to wear your comfortable shoes handy if shopping for awhile. In the newly expanded wing you’ll find the widely-known Barney’s New York anchored at the end of the mall, with other popular stores such as, Forever 21, H&M, Banana Republic, and J. Crew adjacent to it. While the majority of the major stores have already opened there are still a handful of stores waiting to make their debut. And if you love to eat be sure to check out the two restaurants that opened up in the expansion: Modern Ssteak and Marcella’s Italian Kitchen.

Modern Steak is not your typical steakhouse ambiance. It’s light and youthful with very elegant decor, yet still intimate. My colleague, Melissa, raved about the short rib sandwich and peanut butter cup dessert which she said tasted like “deliciousness.” Modern Steak also has a convenient walk-up window for a quick bite on the run called Modern Burger. It has a fairly simple menu with very reasonable prices. Marcella’s Italian Kitchen is also a moderately priced restaurant that’s not too casual or too fancy. My other colleague, Sara, really enjoyed the restaurant’s lunch specials.

A couple other items to make note of is the new underground parking and valet parking options for convenient access to the mall.

Regardless if you’re just visiting Scottsdale or a local, make sure you have enough hours set aside if you love to shop.

Scottsdale Fashion Week Schedule Announced

The evenings of November 6 and 7 will be alive with over two-dozen runway shows. The Main Runway will be located on the Scottsdale Waterfront at Scottsdale and Camelback Roads. This New York style tented fashion show will showcase leading fashion designers and tastemakers on an 80-foot runway. Coinciding with the In-Tent shows, an outdoor runway under the stars across the Arizona canal at Southbridge will feature up-and-coming designers. Scottsdale Fashion Week is back for another year of fabulous fashion! This show brings all of the latest fashions to the runway and the hottest celebrities to the front row. This super hip event draws in fashionistas and up and coming designers in large amounts.

Scottsdale’s Fashion Week will take place November 5 – 7 in the super chic setting of downtown Scottsdale. This year brings the return of the famed Wearable ArtWalk, where models will showcase notable one-of-a-kind pieces of ‘art-to-wear’ clothing and jewelry. This part of the event is completely free and takes place in various galleries throughout the Scottsdale Arts District.

The main event will be the runway shows taking place Friday and Saturday evenings on two different runways in the Southbridge/Waterfront area of downtown. Banana Republic, kate spade, Barneys New York, Chinese designer Zhao Bandi and Eva Franco will take center stage on these runways. And be sure to check out iuk, iuk on the Southbridge Runway Friday evening. This designer was hand selected from a design competition in partnership with the nearby Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art.

In total Scottsdale Fashion Week will host over two-dozen runway shows. The Main Runway will showcase leading fashion designers and will be located at the Scottsdale Waterfront on Marshall Way south of Camelback Road. The outdoor SouthBridge Runway will feature up-and-coming designers and will be located across the Arizona Canal.

Hollywood Fashion Sensation Kevan Hall to Open Scottsdale Fashion Week

Scottsdale Fashion Week has confirmed Hollywood favorite Kevan Hall will open the Waterfront Main Runway with his Spring ‘10 collection on November 6 at 6:00 p.m. The Scottsdale show will mark the second time Hall’s Spring ‘10 collection will be on the runway, coming directly on the heels of LA Fashion Week where it will be previewed on October 17.

Known for his purity of style, incomparable tailoring and sensuously draped streamlined silhouettes, Hall’s award-winning designs have been embraced by fashion retailers and the press. He has masterminded signature looks for Hollywood’s most glamorous celebrities and is recognized for his ‘drop-dead glamour’ as seen on the red carpet with stars like Katherine Heigl, Vanessa Williams, Virginia Madsen, Debra Messing, Anne Hathaway, and Marcia Cross. The $200 All Evening Premium show pass includes VIP seating for five designers New York-style, tented Waterfront Main Runway shows on Friday or Saturday nights, complimentary beverages and access to the VIP Showcase. Tickets for Main Runway single shows are $60 and go on sale October 22, based on availability.

The $25 general admission ticket includes access to eight SouthBridge outdoor runway shows on Friday or Saturday nights and access to surrounding video screens that will broadcast the Main Runway shows.

As part of the grand opening of Barney’s in Scottsdale Fashion Square, the mall created a unique and interesting competition. The competition revolved around decorating a mannequin. They got many local businesses and organizations involved. The resulting mannequins are awesome. I’m particularly fond of our own. If you agree, please click on her to vote for it.

Barneys New York will open its doors in Scottsdale, Arizona on October 15, 2009 (more details here). The new 60,000 square foot store on two levels is located at Scottsdale Fashion Square shopping center.

Taste Luxury Humor
The Manhattan-based specialty retailer founded in 1923, may well be the best known luxury emporium in the world. Barneys is easily recognized by its bright red awnings and iconic black shopping bags. The store interior is a unique juxtaposition of design, whimsical display and a sophisticated gallery-like environment. The Barneys window displays, designed by creative director Simon Doonan, are world famous. The Merchandise

The Services
Mark Strausman, Managing Director of Fred’s restaurants at Barneys New York stores, will oversee the Scottsdale outpost. The upper level 4,800 square foot brasserie, with interior designed by David Schefer and Eve-Lynn Schoenstein of David Schefer Design, LLC features a vaulted woodwork ceiling and a bay of wrap around windows offering eastern and mountain views. There is a separate porte cocher entrance, as well as an express elevator from the parking garage to take diners directly up to the restaurant, which will remain open for dinner after store closing. Italian-American (Traditional) cuisine with an emphasis on healthful local ingredients. Open for Lunch and Dinner, Monday-Friday. Brunch, Lunch, and Dinner on Saturday and Sunday.

Personal Shopping services will be offered to customers needing assistance with an entire wardrobe or help with time-saving expertise in any area of the store including fine jewelry, accessories, and gift giving. The service is complimentary and best arranged by appointment. Customers who use Barneys’ personal shoppers will be pampered within spacious residential-style suites equipped with lounges and private fitting rooms featuring Barneys’ luxe and eccentric mood-enhancing interiors.

The Architecture
In order to realize the Barneys vision for the new Scottsdale store, David New, Barneys New York’s Executive Vice President of Creative Services and his Store Design team collaborated on the project with global design firm Gensler. While the overall store design contains many of the signature features of Barneys New York stores, including long open floor plans, a gallery-like interior and monumental staircase, the Scottsdale store has its own character, including nods to the local environment. The exterior features Sierra stone with visible striations as a salute to the South West. The tonal gray, white and blue marble lends a cool and tranquil feeling to the main floor. Some original features of the store are the modern design of the monumental steel and glass sculptural staircase that connects the two floors and a glass box entryway on the facade, smoothly connecting outside to the inside. The flooring throughout is a notable design highlight: the spacious open layout shows off intricate geometric patterns and materials including mosaic tile and beautiful woods such as teak. Each floor has its own unique design and character and use of rich materials.

The Manager
Diane Schwartz is the vice-president and general manager of the store. She was formerly the department manager for women’s designer collections at the Barneys New York Las Vegas store.

About the New Expansion:
